For the 2020-21 school year, Central Elementary will temporarily suspend our uniform dress code requirements.
This decision was not made lightly. We have had many conversations with various stakeholders and have spent much time weighing the pros and cons. As a learning community, we understand the benefits of students wearing uniforms and how they can mitigate numerous behavioral issues, create a visually more equitable socio-economic environment, and also provide a more focused mindset for learning.
Our decision to suspend our current uniform policy for the upcoming school year is a direct response to the impact Covid-19 has had on families financially as well as district changes associated with the Plan B reopening - specifically 5th graders going to Albemarle Middle School where there is no dress code.
To create a safe learning environment, we will align our dress code expectations to those of the Stanly County Schools' Dress Code Policy outlined in the SCS Student and Parent Handbook.
