Dress Code
To create a safe learning environment, our dress code expectations align to those of the Stanly County Schools' Dress Code Policy - with a few additions/clarifications.
Students must wear clothes that are appropriate for school. School is your child's job, and they should dress respectfully for a learning environment. Per SCS Board policy #4065, it is the discretion of the administration to enforce compliance and/or modify requirements as needed.
A few points of emphasis we would like to highlight include:
Crocs: While not recommended, students are permitted to wear crocs to/at school. However, due to safety concerns, students wearing Crocs will NOT be allowed to participate in PE. Students desiring to wear Crocs should bring tennis shoes to change into on their respective PE day.
Bottoms
- Pants are expected to fit properly at the waist and the hem (please provide a belt if necessary)
- Shorts, skirts or skorts can be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee
- Leggings can be worn with a shirt or dress that is long enough to cover the wearer’s bottom
- Holes/rips must be no higher than proper short/skirt length unless leggings are worn underneath
Shirts
- Shirts must fully cover the stomach and chest on all students
- Off shoulder, strapless, one shoulder or spaghetti strap shirts are NOT permitted
- Logos/words on shirts must be school appropriate and follow SCS policy
Shoes
- Rubber soled shoes must be worn on PE days - preferably appropriate tennis shoes
- No heels or wedges should be worn unless designated for special occasions
- Flip flops or other open toe footwear is NOT permitted
Jackets/Outerwear
- Please note, hoods on hoodies and jackets are not permitted to be worn on the head in the building
- Large coats/jackets will be taken off once students are settled in classrooms.
Jewelry
- No dangling or large hoop earrings, as this is a safety hazard
- No chains/necklaces which could cause a safety issue
- Please do not wear valuable or sentimental items to school as these are frequently lost (staff are not responsible for keeping these items during the school day)
